The History and Future of Israel and the Middle East
Part 9
Introduction
To review, the five major events that are causing Israel and the Middle East to be in turmoil are:
1. God put enmity between Satan and Israel.
(Genesis 3:15)
2. Ishmaels’ descendants, the Ishmaelites, were prophesied to constantly cause Israel problems, do not exist today as a nation or people. However, their descendants continue to cause problems as they were absorbed into the Arab nations.
3. Israel’s title deed to the land promised by God to Abraham and His descendants forever is found in Genesis 15 continues to demonstrate that the land belongs exclusively to Isarel and the Jewish people. In the Old Testament God reiterated to Isarel at least 18 times that In the Old Testament that He gave the land to them as an everlasting possession.
4. Jacob received the promises of the Abrahamic Covenant instead of Esau. The descendants of Esau, the Edomites, have constantly caused Israel problems along with the Ishmaelites. In Psalm 83:5-8 we find that the Ishmaelites and the Edomites made a covenant with other peoples and nations at that time to destroy Isarel.
5. God changing Jacob’s name to Israel. From him, the first Jew, came the 12 tribes and the nation of Israel.
II. The Future of Israel and the Middle East
A. From the Rapture to the Messianic Kingdom
Remember there are four prophesied distinct periods in God’s plan for Israel during the diaspora as part of the Leviticus 26 and Land Covenant found in Deuteronomy 28 - 30. They are dispersion, preservation, restoration, and reconciliation. These distinct periods cover a period of approximately 2000 years. These periods prophesied by Moses in Deuteronomy and fleshed out in secular history contributed to Israel History and her becoming a nation after 1900 years. We have discussed the dispersion and the preservation aspect of God’s plan for Israel in the diaspora. Now, we are going to continue our discussion lesson on the restoration aspect of God’s plan for Israel in the diaspora from our last lesson.
Reconciliation
Today we will continue to explore the last part of the diaspora found in Deut. 28-30 which is Reconciliation. This reconciliation is between God and Israel. Reconciliation refers to the Restoration of friendly relationships and of peace where before there had been hostility and alienation.
Since the death of the Messiah, there has been no reconciliation with God except though Him. Since Israel as a nation has never accepted God’s offer to be reconciled to Him by trusting in Jesus, the nation is in need of reconciliation.
During our last lesson, we read and discussed Ezekiel 37 about the
Dry bones. Verses 11-14 explain the meaning of the dry bones.
11 Then He said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel; behold, they say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope has perished. We are completely cut off.’
12 “Therefore prophesy and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I will open your graves and cause you to come up out of your graves, My people; and I will bring you into the land of Israel.
13 “Then you will know that I am the Lord, when I have opened your graves and caused you to come up out of your graves, My people.
14 “I will put My Spirit within you and you will come to life, and I will place you on your own land. Then you will know that I, the Lord, have spoken and done it,” declares the Lord.’ ”
Zech 12: 10
“I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have pierced; and they will mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn.
Rom 11: 25-27
25 For I do not want you, brethren, to be uninformed of this mystery—so that you will not be wise in your own estimation—that a partial hardening has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in;
26 and so all Israel will be saved; just as it is written,
“The Deliverer will come from Zion,
He will remove ungodliness from Jacob.”
27 “This is My covenant with them,
When I take away their sins.”
Ezekiel 36:24-29 gives greater insight into Israel’s.
reconciliation with God.
24 “For I will take you from the nations, gather you from all the lands and bring you into your own land.
25 “Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols.
26 “Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
27 “I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk
in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My
ordinances.
28 “You will live in the land that I gave to your forefather
so, you will be My people, and I will be your God.
29 “I will not hide My face from them any longer, for I will
have poured out My Spirit on the house of Israel,”
declares the Lord God.
1 Corinthians 6:17 - But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him.
Galatians 6:25 - If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.
Matthew 24:29-30
29 “But immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from the sky, and he powers of the heavens will be shaken.
30 “And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory.
31 “And He will send forth His angels with a great trumpet and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.
Ezekiel 36.24-25
24 “For I will take you from the nations, gather you from all
the lands and bring you into your own land.
25 “Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols.
Titus 3:5-7
5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which
We have done in righteousness, but according to His
mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing
by the Holy Spirit,
6 whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior,
7 so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
Ezekiel 37:15-28
15 The word of the Lord came again to me saying,
16 “And you, son of man, take for yourself one stick and writ
on it, ‘For Judah and for the sons of Israel, his companions’; take another stick and write on it, ‘For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim and all the house of Israel, his companions.’
17 “Then join them for yourself one to another into one
stick, that they may become one in your hand.
18 “When the sons of your people speak to you saying, ‘Will
you not declare to us what you mean by these?’
19 say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I will take
the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the
tribes of Israel, his companions; and I will put them with
it, with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they
will be one in My hand.” ’
20 “The sticks on which you write will be in your hand
before their eyes.
21 “Say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I will
take the sons of Israel from among the nations where they
have gone, and I will gather them from every side and bring
them into their own land;
22 and I will make them one nation in the land, on the
mountains of Israel; and one king will be king for all of them;
and they will no longer be two nations and no longer be
divided into two kingdoms.
23 “They will no longer defile themselves with their idols,
or with their detestable things, or with any of their
transgressions; but I will deliver them from all their dwelling
places in which they have sinned, and will cleanse them. And
they will be My people, and I will be their God.
24 “My servant David will be king over them, and they will
all have one shepherd; and they will walk in My
ordinances and keep My statutes and observe them.
25 “They will live on the land that I gave to Jacob My
servant, in which your fathers lived; and they will live on it,
they, and their sons and their sons’ sons, forever; and David
My servant will be their prince forever.
Zecheriah 14:9 - And the Lord will be king over all the earth;
in that day the Lord will be the only one, and His name the
only one.
Ez.14:16-17 Then it will come about that any who are left
of all the nations that went against Jerusalem will go up
from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and
to celebrate the Feast of Booths.
17 And it will be that whichever of the families of the earth
does not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of
hosts, there will be no rain on them.
Ez. 37:26 “I will make a covenant of peace with them; it will be an everlasting covenant with them. And I will place them and multiply them, and will set My sanctuary in their midst forever.
27 “My dwelling place also will be with them; and I will be their God, and they will be My people.
28 “And the nations will know that I am the Lord who
sanctifies Israel, when My sanctuary is in their midst
forever.” ’ ”
